Unusual Gas Odor Detected in Northern and Northwestern Suburbs

MCHENRY COUNTY, Unwell. — A wierd odor throughout the north and northwest suburbs stems from an incident in Iowa, authorities in McHenry County said Tuesday.

In keeping with an alert from McHenry Police, the smell poses no threat to the general public.

“McHenry PD is aware of a natural gas odor in the realm,” the department said. “There isn’t a gas leak in our area, and there isn’t any danger to residents. On account of wind speed/direction/temperature, the odor is traveling to us from Iowa. There isn’t a have to call 911 to report the odor as there isn’t any leak in our stars and no threat to the community.”

In keeping with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, it’s believed the natural gas-like odor likely originated through the maintenance of apparatus in Cedar County, Iowa.

NICOR Gas told WGN News they’ve responded to a high volume of calls concerning the strange odor as well, but they said it wasn’t related to their system or operations.

WGN News received several complaints from viewers concerning the smell. Right now, nonetheless, the reason behind the odor is unknown.
