Madison Liu, New Trier Tennis: A Glimpse into the Athlete of the Week

Madison Liu is a senior for the Trevians who’s a three-time sectional champion and two-time state medalist.

1. Do you’ve got any prematch rituals or superstitions?

I’m not very superstitious, but I do wish to take heed to music sometimes before my matches. (The kind) type of depends. I wish to take heed to a combination of the whole lot.

2. What do you hope to do next 12 months?

Next 12 months I hope to play college tennis and play at an excellent (Division I) school and join an awesome team and get an excellent education. I’m hoping to come to a decision soon about where going to find yourself.

3. What’s your dream job?

Probably a chef. I feel like that might be a extremely cool and fun job. I enjoy cooking and baking so much in my free time. I feel I picked it up during COVID.

4. What’s your best dish?

Probably lasagna. I feel I make really good lasagna.

5. When did you begin to essentially get into tennis?

I began after I was about 6 years old, but I used to be primarily a figure skater growing up. I assume I switched more into tennis probably when COVID hit, which was eighth grade and freshman 12 months. I converted to tennis more since it was very COVID secure.

6. How have you ever grown since freshman 12 months?

I feel I’ve grown as an individual basically. I feel I’ve definitely learned find out how to be an excellent teammate. Playing before Recent Trier, quite a lot of my tennis was very individual. Playing on the Recent Trier team taught me find out how to be an excellent teammate and an excellent leader as well. I used to be lucky enough to be captain of the team my junior and senior years. I’ve grown as a pacesetter basically.

7. What’s your favorite thing to do off the court?

Off the court I wish to spend time with my family and friends in my spare time. I wish to go to the beach with my friends. I also wish to buy groceries and watch movies.

8. In case you’re in Walgreens with a pair bucks, what are you purchasing?

Probably some type of candy. I like gummies basically, either gummy bears or Sour Patch Kids or Swedish Fish.

9. What’s something people don’t find out about you?

I assume some people don’t know I actually have a twin brother, which is pretty cool because I got to grow up with someone my age. We now have an excellent relationship and an excellent bond.

10. What is significant to you and your team’s success within the postseason?

Practice basically is pretty essential. After the highschool tennis season, practicing will help develop my game. Good matches and help me develop. As a person, I actually hope to win the singles draw in addition to the team aspect. I actually, actually need the team to win. I’m going to get good competition and the team will get good competition, but I feel (state will) be really fun and I feel we’ll do great. I’m really looking forward to it.
