Interview with Luke Weber, Highland Park baseball player – Athlete of the Week

Luke Weber is a senior right-handed pitcher for the Giants. He’s committed to the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and is off to a 3-0 start this season.

1. Do you’ve gotten any pregame rituals or superstitions?

I prefer to keep the identical stretching routine. I never like to vary any of that. I be certain I’m full before games. Pitching on an empty stomach doesn’t go well, especially within the late innings. In between innings, I all the time have Gatorade, purple, grape-flavored.

2. Why Illinois?

I actually loved all of the coaches there and in addition it’s sort of near home, so my parents can come watch me throw. They got a brand new indoor facility over the winter, and I assumed it was a superb fit. Mostly just the coaches made me feel at home there.

3. What has made you a successful pitcher?

I believe movement on my fastball and movement on my changeup. I’m a reasonably large tail guy. In highschool baseball, a variety of kids aren’t throwing as hard as I’m, but once we play harder teams, movement on my fastball and changeup gives them a unique look.

4. If you happen to could play one other position, what would it not be?

I’d probably play center field. I played growing up. I enjoyed the outfield, making diving catches and throwing runners out.

5. Do you’ve gotten a favourite athlete?

Yea, I don’t necessarily fully relate to this person, but Bryce Harper (OF — Philadelphia Phillies). He plays right field and I’m a pitcher, but I like his swagger and the way he plays. I’ve all the time looked as much as him.

6. What’s your favorite thing to do off the sphere?

I really like being outside, hanging out with friends on the weekend, just having fun with times outside in the summertime — my favorite season.

7. What’s your dream job?

Probably being a coach, either a school coach at Division I level or minor league or major league coach. I’m going into sports management at Illinois, so definitely something within the sports world.

8. If you happen to’re in Walgreens with a pair bucks, what are you purchasing?

I’m probably buying an Arizona Ice Tea — half lemonade, half ice tea — and perhaps a Milky Way.

9. What’s something people don’t find out about you?

I don’t know if that is what people don’t know, but I really like lifting (weights). It’s one in every of my second passions. It’s helped me in baseball, but a variety of people think it’s a chore, but I adore it. If I wasn’t playing baseball, I is perhaps a body builder.

10. Off to an 8-3 start, what is that this team able to?

I believe we’re definitely able to wining conference. Last yr it was a three-way tie, and I believe we’re the strongest team this yr. The past three years we’ve lost in the primary round of playoffs. I believe this team is able to winning a regional. That’s one in every of our goals, winning one playoff game and perhaps two or three.
