Illinois Lottery winner of $12M scratch off chooses to share wealth with sons despite criticism for playing

NILES, In poor health. — A lucky Illinois Lottery player is having the last laugh after a scratch-off ticket bought at a suburban Jewel won them $12 million.

Based on a news release from the Illinois Lottery, the one who won is commonly given a tough time from their family for purchasing scratch-off tickets. And after buying the ticket at a Jewel-Osco within the 7900 North Milwaukee Ave in Niles, their son was the primary person called.

“I immediately called my son and squealed ‘I feel I won big!’ Next thing I do know, he’s yelling at his fiancée to get out of the lavatory in order that they could come over to see the ticket,” the winner, who’s staying anonymous, said. “My sons don’t play the lottery they usually love to offer me a tough time after I buy my tickets occasionally, so I’d at all times joke with them saying, ‘After I win, I won’t provide you with any!’”

Despite the threat, the player said they’ll split the winnings with their two sons.

When asked what they plan to do with the tremendous jackpot, they added, “We’re going to splurge and take our whole family on a vacation so we are able to have a good time together.”

This can be an enormous win for the retailer that sold the winning ticket, as the shop will receive a selling bonus of 1 percent of the prize amount. For Jewel-Osco in Niles, which means a bonus of $120,000, the discharge said.
