Local rescue units on Wednesday evening pulled a body from Lake Michigan near Gillson Beach in Wilmette, according to multiple Record sources.
The body reportedly is that of a 56-year-old man from Wilmette, according to a press release from the Wilmette Police Department.
Wilmette Police Chief Kyle Murphy said that according to a preliminary investigation the man may have died by suicide. The Record does not publish the names of individuals who died by suicide unless it is of significant public interest.
According to the release, he was discovered by a paddle boarder between 50 to 100 yards from Wilmette’s shoreline. A preliminary investigation revealed no “obvious signs of trauma” to the man’s body, which reportedly was not in the water for a prolonged period of time.
Emergency units from Wilmette, Evanston and Winnetka responded to the scene with divers recovering the body around 5:30 p.m.
The Wilmette Police Department is leading an investigation.
