Athlete of the Week: 10 questions with Addie Shevitz, New Trier lacrosse

Addie Shevitz is a senior attacker for Trevians lacrosse. She will play for Arizona State University next season.

1. Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

I try not to have any superstitions, because it would stress me out if I don’t get them done. But before every game, I drive in the same carpool and just listen to very loud music. I guess I have one superstition. During our warmups in free positions, I like making both my two shots.

2. Why is Arizona State a good fit for you?

The weather is awesome and I really like the coaching staff and culture they have there as a team, and I really like the school.

3. What is it you enjoy about lacrosse?

I really like how there are four different positions and you can get pretty close with other people in your positions. As an attacker, I like working with other midfielders and other attackers and getting used to running the same plays and movements. I’ve had the same teammates for many years and I just love the sport.

4. What is your favorite thing to do off the field?

I love spending time with my friends and getting some good laughs in. We do dance parties a lot.

5. What is your dream job?

I’m not 100 percent sure, but I have wanted to be a physical trainer. Just because as an athlete I’ve dealt with knee injuries and thought it would be interesting to find out an injury on someone and help people feel better and get back to their sport.

6. If you could play another sport, what would it be?

Probably soccer. I grew up playing soccer and I loved it. I just grew out of it a little bit and also ended it with a pretty bad broken leg (seventh grade), which made me kind of done with it.

7. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

I’d want to go to Africa. I feel like it’s far away and would be really cool seeing the natural wildlife and seeing animals you don’t see here.

8. If you are in Walgreens with a couple bucks, what are you buying?

Probably a lemon-lime Gatorade out of the sippy cup bottle. That’s my go-to.

9. What is something people don’t know about you?

I was a gymnast, (for) like eight years. I was really into it. I just got hurt a lot and I was just doing too many sports, so I had to pick favorites. That’s when I switched to soccer and lacrosse.

10. How is your senior year and what does this team need to do to repeat as state champs?

Our season has been good. Our team culture is really good. We’re really close. At practices, we can get really locked in and have really good practices and get our dynamic going. In the future and and going to playoffs, we just need to continue to have high-intensity practices and maintain our focus and coach each other to get as good as we can.
